Our verdict

A Rhode Island fine-jewelry retailer founded in 1952 and run by a named company, with free standard shipping, 30 days to return and Affirm financing — but returns may cost a $4.95 fee, we found no warranty on its pages, the risk of loss is yours once a parcel ships, and its diamonds are graded by its own gemologists.

The bottom line. Ross-Simons was started in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1952 by Sidney Thomas Ross and his wife Lillian8; its site is run by Luxury Brand Holdings, Inc. from 9 Ross-Simons Drive in Cranston16,17, on a domain registered in 199618. It has a store in Warwick, Rhode Island, rated 4.0 from 114 Google reviews9,19, and Google shows a 4.0 TrustScore from about 2,021 Trustpilot reviews20,21. Standard shipping is free on jewelry orders2, you get 30 days from the day you receive an order to return it for a refund3, and checkout runs on Shopify with cards, PayPal and Affirm1,22. Ross-Simons’ Terms of Sale name the seller as Luxury Brand Holdings, Inc., doing business as Ross-Simons16, at 9 Ross-Simons Drive in Cranston, Rhode Island17. A press release calls Ross-Simons ‘a division of Luxury Brand Holdings Inc.’27, and CB Insights lists Nonantum Capital Partners among its investors28. The ross-simons.com domain dates from May 199618.

Its store is at 136 Route 5 in Warwick, Rhode Island, open Monday to Saturday 10am–6pm and Sunday noon–5pm9. Returns & exchanges

You have 30 days from the day you receive an order to return it for a refund or exchange; the original shipping and handling charges aren’t refunded3,12. Pieces must come back unused and in their original condition, and anything damaged, altered or resized by another jeweler is refused3. Returns start online through Loop Returns, which also offers an exchange or a new item instead of a refund and generates the return label12; the returns page adds that Ross-Simons ‘may include a flat fee of $4.95 for return shipping and handling’12, and the code of its product pages lists the same $4.95 as a return shipping fee4. You can also send a return with any carrier: you insure the parcel for its full value, ship within 30 days, and it stays your responsibility until the distribution center signs for it12.

Every return is inspected by its quality-assurance staff or a gemologist and is usually processed within 4 business days of arrival12. Gifts returned by the recipient get merchandise credit13. The Terms of Sale add that personalized, engraved, custom, special-order and final-sale merchandise may not be returnable16, and that the discount or promotional value may be taken off the refund when you return something bought on an offer16.

'Any unused merchandise' — with exceptions and a fee
The Our Guarantee page lets you return ‘any unused merchandise’ within 30 days of receipt13, and the company description on its Trustpilot page promises a ‘100% money back guarantee on every item’32. Its Terms of Sale, though, say personalized, engraved, custom, special-order and final-sale pieces may not be returnable16, and the $4.95 return fee appears on the returns page but not in its refund policy3,12,13,14. We count these as minor wording differences. Before you order a personalized or special-order piece, ask customer care whether it can come back.

Shipping & delivery

Standard shipping is free on jewelry orders and takes 3–6 business days2,33; Express 2-Day costs $12.95 more and Overnight $20.95, if you order by 1 pm Eastern on a weekday15. Some heavy or bulky items carry a shipping surcharge15, and pieces shipped by the manufacturer take about 2 weeks15. A signature is required on orders over $1,50015.

For US orders we found no mention of shipping insurance1,2,13,14,15; the shipping policy mentions insurance only as part of international shipping costs33. The Terms of Sale say the risk of loss passes to you when Ross-Simons hands the parcel to the carrier, and that delivery dates are only estimates16. Its two shipping pages also disagree on international orders: one says it ships to over 200 countries, the other that it doesn’t ship internationally15,33.

What Ross-Simons sells & what it costs

The first 2,000 products in Ross-Simons’ product feed are mostly fine jewelry, plus watches, bridal jewelry and a few accessories10. Jewelry starts at $29, half of those products cost $595 or less (our count), and the most expensive costs $37,99510. It also sells vintage estate pieces dated like ‘C. 1990 Vintage’, and pre-owned Rolex watches1,34. When we checked, the home page was running a 25% off gemstone sale1.

Solid gold is sold by karat — 10kt, 14kt and 18kt, and 21kt on a vintage piece — without the alloy6,9,35. Pieces in ’18kt Gold Over Sterling’ are tagged as gold-plated in its product feed, and we found no plating thickness8,10,23,24,25; its menus sort jewelry into gold, silver, gold-plated and two-tone1.

Stones are named plainly: the menus separate lab-grown and mined diamonds, CZ and simulated gemstones1, lab-grown diamonds say so in the title and description5, CZ is called CZ36 and synthetic sapphires are called synthetic10. Its product pages warn that most gemstones are treated and that weights are approximate23. On one $37,995 lab-grown tennis necklace, though, the title says 61.00 ct. t.w. and the description 69.00 ct. t.w.4.

Ross-Simons says its own gemologists provide every detail of its pieces, down to clarity8, and its Warwick page advertises ‘Certified Diamonds’ without naming a lab9; we found no GIA, IGI or other lab report on the diamond pages we checked or in the first 2,000 products of its feed4,5,6,7,8,9,10. The review site Willyou notes that Ross-Simons says its in-store graders follow GIA standards, but that it’s impossible to know how accurate their system is11. We found no appraisal offer and no sourcing policy1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,12,13,37. Ross-Simons says it buys direct from its manufacturers so you get ‘a fair value’8.

Ross-Simons FAQ

Is Ross-Simons legit?

Yes, it’s a long-established retailer: started in Providence in 19528 and run by a named company, Luxury Brand Holdings, Inc., from Cranston, Rhode Island16,17, with a store in Warwick and a 4.0 TrustScore from about 2,021 Trustpilot reviews9,20,21. Its weak points are its terms: no warranty on its pages, a possible $4.95 return fee, and the risk of loss on you once the parcel ships2,3,8,12,13,14,15,16.

Is Ross-Simons jewelry real gold?

Its solid-gold pieces are sold by karat — 10kt, 14kt and 18kt gold6,9. Pieces labeled ’18kt Gold Over Sterling’ are tagged as gold-plated in its product feed10,23, so check the metal in the title before you buy.

Does Ross-Simons sell real diamonds?

Yes: it sells both mined and lab-grown diamonds, each in its own section, alongside CZ and simulated gemstones that are labeled as such1,5. Its diamonds are described by its own gemologists, and we found no GIA or IGI report on the pages we checked4,5,6,7,8,9,10. It says most gemstones are treated23.

What is Ross-Simons' return policy?

You have 30 days from the day you receive an order to return it unused for a refund or exchange; original shipping isn’t refunded3. Returns start online through Loop Returns, and Ross-Simons may include a flat $4.95 fee for return shipping and handling12. You can also ship it yourself, insured, to Ross-Simons, Attn: Returns Department, 9 Ross Simons Dr., Cranston, RI 0292012.

Does Ross-Simons have a warranty?

We found no warranty against defects on its pages2,3,8,12,13,14,15. You can buy Extend protection for an item3, and its Terms of Use say purchases are at your sole risk17. The main protection is its 30-day return policy3.

How long does Ross-Simons take to ship?

Free standard shipping takes 3–6 business days2; Express 2-Day costs $12.95 more and Overnight $20.9515. Pieces shipped by the manufacturer take about 2 weeks15.

Its head office is at 9 Ross-Simons Drive in Cranston, Rhode Island17. Its store is at 136 Route 5 in Warwick, Rhode Island, open Monday to Saturday 10am–6pm and Sunday noon–5pm9.

Call 800-835-0919, seven days a week from 7 am to 11 pm Eastern, email [email protected], or use the chat on its site12,14.

Does Ross-Simons buy jewelry?

Is Ross-Simons good quality?

Opinions are mixed. Trustpilot shows 4.0 from about 2,021 reviews, but its summary mentions complaints about overpriced jewelry that tarnished20,21; forum users call it fine for ‘fun pieces’ but ‘cheaper, lower quality’44. Its gold-plated pieces come with no plating thickness8,10,23,24,25.

Why is Ross-Simons so cheap?
