Its story page is told by a founder who was a new mom with postpartum depression in 2013, and says the brand has grown from a one-woman passion project into a team of artisans, designers and customer service specialists⁸. A blog review says Mary Moody started Made by Mary as an outlet to cope with postpartum depression²¹. The madebymary.com domain dates from December 2006⁷.

The site says it still hand-cuts every bar, stamps each letter one by one, and files, polishes and cleans pieces by hand⁸; pieces are personalized in-house and packaged by women in Utah¹⁸, and its YouTube channel says personalized pieces are hand-stamped in its Bluffdale studio²². Returns & exchanges

You have 30 days from delivery to return unworn pieces that aren’t final sale¹. Ready-to-ship pieces get a full refund, an exchange or store credit; the returns policy extends that to pieces stamped with one of Made by Mary’s standard options, while the FAQ names only two birth flower necklaces^1,2. Pieces stamped with your own personalization get no refund — only a 75% exchange or 75% store credit — because they can’t be resold^1,2. Final-sale pieces can’t be returned or exchanged at all¹, and some markdowns on the home page are marked final sale¹⁸. We found no restocking fee^1,2,3, but original shipping isn’t refunded¹.

Returns start in its online returns portal; you attach the return label and drop the parcel at USPS within 30 days². Return shipping is free only on orders bought with Re:do Shipping Protection; all other orders pay for it¹. After 30 days there’s no refund to your original payment method², although orders placed between November 1 and December 17, 2026 can be returned or exchanged through January 31, 2027². Unworn pieces can be exchanged for another size or chain length within 30 days², and TikTok Shop orders go back through TikTok².

US shipping costs $5.95 by Standard (4–8 days in transit), $9.95 Expedited or $19.95 Rushed¹⁹, and it’s free on US orders of $100 or more¹³; orders that include a fine-jewelry piece are upgraded to Expedited automatically¹³. Personalized pieces take 4–5 days to make on Standard, on top of the transit time¹⁹. Parcels go by DHL, FirstMile, USPS or FedEx²; the store doesn’t ship to APO or FPO addresses².

Insurance comes only as Re:do Shipping Protection, a partner company’s cover against loss, theft or damage in transit that you add to your order^2,19; claims are filed online or by email, and damage must be reported within 15 days of delivery². Without it, Made by Mary says it isn’t liable for loss, theft or damage and won’t reship the parcel or refund it². We found no mention of a signature on delivery^2,13,19,25.

Warranty & care

Made By Mary gives a 6-month warranty on all products, covering manufacturing defects such as a broken chain or faulty clasp, and production errors such as a wrong size or a stamping mistake²; claims go through its returns portal². It doesn’t cover wear and tear, damage from not following the care instructions, lost or stolen pieces, improper use, or pieces altered by someone else², and the store can deny claims it finds fraudulent or outside the coverage².

For repairs you email the store, and pieces sent in for rework travel at your own risk²; for a broken chain it offers its Adjustable Flat Cable Chain². We found no free cleaning, repair or resizing service^1,2,3,4,5; it recommends its own Restore Jewelry Cleaner⁴.

What Made By Mary sells & what it costs

Most pieces come in gold filled, rose gold filled or sterling silver². Its care guide describes each metal: vermeil is at least 2.5 microns of gold over solid sterling silver⁴ — 14K gold, according to its blog²⁶; gold filled is a thick layer of 14K gold bonded to brass, 5% gold by weight⁴; gold-plated brass carries a 2.5-micron layer of gold⁴; and sterling silver is 92.5% silver⁴. Its fine jewelry is 10k or 14k solid gold^4,13, but its solid gold diamond pages don’t say whether it’s yellow, white or rose gold^13,15,16,17. It says all its products are nickel-free².

The diamonds on the pieces we checked are lab-grown, which the store explains have the same composition as natural diamonds¹³. Its smaller diamond pieces give their total carat weight, color and clarity — 0.3 carat, F-G, VS1-VS2 on the Poppy eternity band and the station bracelet, 0.18 carat on the Poppy hoops^13,16,17. Its 14k Diamond Stud Earrings set a single lab-grown diamond in each earring, from 0.5 to 2 carats for the pair — the 2-carat option is two 1-carat diamonds — with the color (F-G) and clarity (VS1-VS2) stated on the page¹⁵, at $450 to $1,000²⁷. None of the diamond pages we read, the studs’ included, names a grading lab or mentions a report^13,15,16,17 or an appraisal^{2,13,15,16,17,18}.

Other stones are named plainly: the birthstones on the pieces we checked are cubic zirconia^14,28, the dragonfly pendant has an opal and cubic zirconia²⁹, and the pearl charm is a freshwater pearl³⁰. Its product feed lists necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, anklets, jewelry sets and add-ons²⁷, from $34 Mini Live In Hoop Earrings to the $1,000 diamond studs²⁷; on the home page a Round Stacking Ring costs $38 and a Love Disc Necklace $88¹⁸. It says its partners are paid fair wages and its products are ‘ethically sourced and made’², but we found no sourcing policy for its metals or diamonds^{2,4,8,13,15,16,17,18}.

Google shows Made By Mary’s listing at its Bluffdale address, as a jewelry designer, at 3.4 stars from 233 reviews¹¹, and its Trustpilot page appears in Google results with a TrustScore of 1.7¹². A BBB category page in Google lists Made By Mary as an online retailer with a C rating³³; we’re still checking its BBB profile and its Trustpilot review count by hand. The site itself advertises ‘50,000+ 5-star reviews’¹.

On Reddit, a thread titled ‘Madebymary removing reviews’ describes a piece that arrived ‘super scratched’ and felt ‘lightweight and flimsy’³⁴; in r/UtahInfluencerDrama, one post calls it ‘an overpriced brand’ whose new vermeil pieces don’t last, and another thread is about it raising its prices^35,36.
