Its gold vermeil is at least 2.5 microns of 18k gold over 925 sterling silver¹⁴, and it says it uses only 100% recycled gold and sterling silver¹¹. You get 100 days to return a piece, sale items included¹, and its 5-Year Warranty covers free repairs, resizing and re-plating, even for accidental scratches². You can pay by card, PayPal or Klarna^9,15, and Trustpilot shows 4.7 from 27k reviews¹⁶. It stays in the ‘mostly reliable’ range because a US return costs $7.95 for its label³, shipping insurance isn’t mentioned and its help center says orders need no signature^4,5,6,7,8,9, and its help center and US terms disagree on when the 100 days start, whether delivery charges are refunded and where you can return in person^1,9. Engraved pieces can’t be returned¹. Its Soho store in New York is rated 3.5 on Google¹⁷, and complaints about worn plating and tarnish recur^18,19.

Monica Vinader says it was founded in 2008; its founder, Monica, was born in San Sebastian, Spain, moved to London to study Fine Arts, and still runs the brand she launched¹¹, and a statement on its sustainability page is signed ‘Monica Vinader’¹². Wikipedia describes Monica Vinader Ltd. as a British jewellery brand¹⁰. The UK company, Monica Vinader Limited, is registered in England and Wales and was incorporated in April 2002, and Companies House lists Monica Vinader as an active director^21,36,37. PitchBook lists Bridgepoint Group and Piper Private Equity as investors³⁸, and trade press reporting Bridgepoint’s investment said the company would continue to be led by Monica as CEO and Gabriela Vinader as MD, who have a small ownership part in it³⁹.

For US buyers, the terms of sale are with Monica Vinader Inc, a company registered at 28 Old Rudnick Ln in Dover, Delaware⁹; the site’s copyright line names Monica Vinader Ltd²⁰. Its head office is at Holkham in Norfolk, UK, which is also where US returns are sent^9,12. In the US it has stores in Soho, New York, at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California, and at Belmont Park Village in Elmont, New York¹³; its first US store opened in Soho in 2016⁴⁰, and its jewelry is also sold at Nordstrom, Selfridges, Liberty, John Lewis and Farfetch¹¹. The jewelry is made by a handful of partner factories in India, Thailand and Italy, which the site names⁴¹, and the monicavinader.com domain dates from May 2001⁴². Its US terms send disputes to binding individual arbitration, with no class actions, under New York law⁹.

How to reach Monica Vinader

US customers can call the toll-free number +1 855 216 4178; the US terms give its hours as 6am to 5pm Eastern time on weekdays, while the help center lists the line from 9am to 9pm UK time on weekdays and closed at weekends^9,22. The help center also offers live chat, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger²². Its UK terms give the email address [email protected], and the US terms point to an email contact page^9,21.

Returns & exchanges

The help center gives you 100 days from purchase to return a piece for an exchange or a refund, including sale items and pieces bought with a promotion code¹; product pages promise a full refund to your card within the same 100 days¹⁴, and the home page advertises ‘100-Day Returns’²⁰; a US banner that Google shows for its pages adds ‘Free 100 day returns’²⁵. Pieces must be new, unworn and in their original packaging, and earrings shouldn’t be tried on¹. Engraved pieces and anything made to your specifications can’t be returned unless they arrived faulty^1,9, and some pieces come with a free engraving²⁶.

From the US, the ‘subsidized’ label from its self-serve returns portal costs $7.95, or you can send the piece with a carrier of your choice at your own cost³; returns go to its returns department in Norfolk, UK⁹. Refunds go back to the card you paid with: within 5 working days of the return arriving, according to the help center¹, or within 14 days under the US terms⁹. We found no restocking fee^1,3,9,14. For an exchange, the new order waits until your return arrives, and you have 14 days to send the piece¹. If the price drops within the 100 days, Monica Vinader sends a gift voucher for the difference⁴⁴. Pieces bought at Nordstrom or another retailer go back to that retailer¹, and sample-sale pieces, sold through Chicmi and Brand Alley, get 14 days, with return postage to the UK at your cost³⁴.

Shipping & delivery

Standard delivery to the US takes 5 working days and costs $4.95, free on orders over $150; express delivery takes 1–2 working days for $15^4,20. Monica Vinader pays import duties up front, so the checkout price is final⁶; state sales tax is added at checkout⁹. Orders ship by FedEx, tracked from dispatch to delivery^6,7, but US customs can add delays of ‘a few days to several weeks’⁶. It doesn’t deliver to PO boxes or mail-forwarding addresses⁸.

We found no mention of shipping insurance^4,5,6,7,8,9. The help center says orders don’t need a signature and that FedEx may leave a parcel in a designated safe place⁵, although its delivery page says ‘some must be signed for’⁴. If an order hasn’t arrived within 30 days, the US terms let you cancel and get your money back⁹. Ownership passes to you on delivery⁹, and we found no process for a parcel that shows as delivered but never reaches you^4,5,6,7,8,9.

Warranty & aftercare

Every piece comes with a 5-Year Warranty: the help center promises free repairs ‘no questions asked’, whether you’ve accidentally scratched a pendant or want a ring resized or re-plated², and the US terms cover any issue under normal wear for five years from purchase, with proof of purchase⁹. If a piece can’t be fixed, you get a replacement, or a voucher for what you paid if the piece has been discontinued². Faded vermeil is re-plated and tarnish is repaired free within the warranty^2,27,45. The warranty doesn’t cover gifts with purchase, the MV Shirt, sample-sale pieces, or loss and theft^14,34,46.

Rings can be resized free within five years of purchase, typically by up to two sizes; some styles can’t be resized, and later resizing costs ‘a small charge’^27,35. After five years, repairs continue for ‘a small fee’, and a paid repair starts a new 5-year warranty; its in-store repair article prices a new warranty at £25–50^2,27,28. Its sustainability page says ‘We’ll mend your pieces for free’ and that it buys back unwanted jewelry from any brand¹²; the warranty pages limit free repairs to the first five years².

You can send a piece in through an online portal that creates the return form and shipping label²⁷, or take it to any of its boutiques; repaired pieces come back within 14 weeks²⁸. Pieces bought from a department store are covered with the receipt or another proof of purchase⁴⁷. We found no free cleaning or inspection service; Monica Vinader sells a care kit for $40^{2,9,20,27,28,29,30}.

What Monica Vinader sells & what it costs

Monica Vinader’s gold vermeil is 18k gold of at least 2.5 microns layered over 925 sterling silver¹⁴; its sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% alloys²⁴, and it also sells 14k solid gold without naming the alloy^20,24,32. It says it uses only 100% recycled gold and sterling silver¹¹, and its Product Passport traces the origin of over 50% of the range²⁴. It doesn’t add nickel to its jewelry, and an independent laboratory tests for trace metals³⁰.

Its new collections use lab-grown diamonds¹², labeled ‘Lab Grown Diamond’ in product names and listed in a separate menu section from its other diamonds^14,20; its mined diamonds are sourced under the Kimberley Process and the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties²⁴. The help center says its diamonds are H–I colour and I1 clarity, and that diamonds under 0.25 carat aren’t usually certificated³³; one product page we found in Google gives a ring’s diamonds as 0.18 carat⁴⁸. Its engagement rings are lab-grown and custom-cut in its MV Siren shape⁴⁹: Farfetch lists the MV Siren solitaire with a 0.5-carat F/VS lab-grown diamond in 14K gold and an IGI diamond report²³, and Goldsmiths sells a 1-carat version⁵⁰. We found no appraisal offered^{2,9,20,24,27,33}. Its gemstones are described as naturally formed, and its pearls as cultured freshwater pearls^24,51.

On the US site, the jewelry shown on the home page costs $90 to $180, and the vermeil pieces on the other pages we saved go up to $975^20,52. Rings are stocked in UK sizes I to S, except J and R⁵³.

Payment

Monica Vinader’s US terms list Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro and PayPal⁹, and its help center adds China Union Pay and Alipay¹⁵. The help center offers Klarna’s ‘pay in three’ to US customers on orders of $155 or more¹⁵, while US product pages show 4 interest-free instalments¹⁴. It runs its own checkout, and card details go to a payments processor it doesn’t name^9,15,21,55.

What customers say

On Trustpilot, Monica Vinader shows 4.7, ‘Excellent’, from 27k reviews, and it replies to 97% of negative reviews, typically within 24 hours¹⁶. Its stores are rated lower on Google. We score a chain by its flagship: the Chelsea store in London, which its site map calls its London flagship, has 4.4 from 104 reviews^43,56. The Soho store in New York, which Forbes calls its US flagship, has 3.5 from 80^17,57, and Fashion Island 5.0 from only 3⁵⁸. Yelp shows its New York page at 2.6 from 30 reviews³¹, and Reviews.io shows 2.17 from 18⁵⁹. We found no BBB profile for Monica Vinader in Google results⁶⁰. We’re still checking Trustpilot and the BBB by hand.

The complaints we found are mostly about how the plating and finish wear. On Reddit, a thread titled ‘Monica Vinader is so, so bad’ says pieces ‘have tarnished so badly’¹⁸; on Mumsnet, a buyer says the rose gold coating was peeling off a ring just over a week after buying it¹⁹; a Yelp reviewer says a ring of almost $1,500 snapped within 3 weeks³¹; a Facebook commenter says earring catches were loose⁶¹; and a Thingtesting reviewer describes ‘a failure of the finish’⁶². Others say the warranty is honored: ‘Their policy is good and they honour it’, and pieces with rubbed-off plating are replaced within 5 years^63,64.
