Its yellow gold jewelry is 14k solid gold, never plated¹, each piece lists its gold weight¹, and lab-created and natural diamonds are labeled separately⁷; the loose diamonds we opened give GIA report numbers, and every loose diamond in its product feed is named with a GIA grade^4,5,6. Checkout runs on Shopify with cards, PayPal and Shop Pay^1,10,11, and standard US shipping is free¹². It scores lower on purchase protection: its pages disagree on the return window — 20 days from purchase on the refund policy page, 10 business days from delivery in the FAQ, 10 days from delivery on product pages^1,7,13 — $10 for the return label comes off refunds¹, custom, engraved, engagement and vintage pieces are final sale¹, shipping insurance isn’t mentioned^{1,5,7,12,13,14}, and the standard warranty covers one repair of a manufacturing defect within 180 days¹. The site names no company^{8,9,10,11,13,15,16,17}, and Google rates its Culver City flagship 4.3 from 37 reviews¹⁸.

Who is behind Kinn

The site is operated by ‘Kinn Studio’¹⁰, but names no company — no Inc. or LLC^{8,9,10,11,13,15,16,17}. Its founder is Jennie Yoon, whom the site’s markup lists as ‘Founder & CEO’⁸; she says she started Kinn to replace the jewelry her parents lost when their home was robbed⁸. Kinn Studio was established in downtown Los Angeles in October 2017⁹, on a domain registered that May²²; it opened its first showroom there in 2020⁹ and was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in 2023⁹.

It now has a flagship store at 8840 Washington Blvd in Culver City and The House of Kinn at 373 Bleecker St in New York^2,3, and Clare V and Goop shops in California, New York, Chicago and Seattle carry it²³. Kinn says its jewelry is made with manufacturers in Los Angeles and New York, and many of its chains in Italy¹.

How to reach Kinn

Customer care answers email at [email protected] within 1–2 business days, more slowly in peak seasons¹⁷, Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific¹⁷, and through a contact form¹⁷. The Culver City flagship can be called or texted at 310-962-0338 — the same number the site’s markup gives for the company^11,24 — and the New York store answers at 929-751-1757³. The site’s code also loads a Gorgias chat widget¹¹. To cancel or change an order, email within 24 hours; Kinn says it will do its best, but changes aren’t always possible¹.

Returns & exchanges

Kinn’s pages give three different return windows for an online order. The refund policy page allows 20 days from purchase¹³; the FAQ gives 10 business days from delivery for a refund and 20 business days for store credit¹; and a returns box on product pages (we saw it on a tennis necklace) says 10 days from delivery⁷, while the FAQ box on product pages says 10 business days⁵. Exchanges are allowed within 20 business days of delivery, with a free prepaid label¹. Pieces must be unworn and in their original condition and packaging¹.

For a refund to your original payment method, $10 for the return label comes off; if you take store credit, Kinn pays for the label^1,7. Shipping charges aren’t refunded¹. A restocking fee is mentioned only for pieces returned damaged or showing wear: 20% in the FAQ, $20 on product pages, at Kinn’s discretion^1,5. Returns are processed within 5–7 business days of arriving, and refunds post in 2–3 business days¹.

Custom orders and sizes, engraved and personalized pieces, engagement rings, archive or vintage items and gift cards are final sale¹, as are half-sized pieces⁷; some pieces, such as a diamond tennis necklace we checked, can only be exchanged or returned for store credit⁷. By our count of the product feed we downloaded, 275 of its 1,148 products carry a ‘Final Sale’ tag and 67 an ‘Exchange Only’ tag⁴. Ready-to-buy engagement rings are final sale but get one free resizing¹. You can drop an online order off at a store once you’ve started the return online¹, and purchases made from November 23 to December 16 can be returned until January 15, 2027¹.

Shipping & delivery

Standard shipping is free on all US orders, except $30 to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico¹²; express delivery (2–3 business days) costs $25 and rush (1–2) $50¹². Orders under $500 go by USPS and $500–$1,499 by UPS Ground; from $1,500 they go free by UPS 3 Day, and from $2,500 by UPS 2 Day¹². A signature may be required on orders of $2,500 or more, engagement rings and vintage pieces¹². Kinn doesn’t ship to PO boxes, hotels or military bases¹². Ready-to-ship pieces take 3–5 business days to process and made-to-order pieces about 4–6 weeks, before shipping¹².

We found no mention of shipping insurance^{1,5,7,12,13,14}. If a parcel goes missing, Kinn says it will do its best to locate it or ‘provide a solution’, but it isn’t responsible once the carrier marks it delivered¹. A piece that arrives broken or damaged is replaced free once you email a photo¹.

Warranty, repairs & care

Kinn’s standard warranty covers one free repair within 180 days of delivery, if the damage comes from a manufacturing defect; it excludes lost items, improper storage and changes made by others¹. Product pages say the same — one repair within six months, with wear, improper care and third-party changes excluded^5,7 — and handmade variations don’t count as defects¹. The paid Kinn Concierge Service, $200 per piece in its product feed, extends coverage to three years and can’t be refunded^1,4. Vow bridal rings get two years against manufacturing defects, including loose diamonds and prongs¹, excluding wear, scratches and lost or stolen pieces¹.

Repairs outside the warranty are paid; the FAQ says they take 3–4 weeks, the contact page up to 6–8 weeks, and the stores don’t do repairs^1,17. Herringbone chains, hollow hoops and hollow link chains may not be repairable¹, and dents in hollow hoops can’t be fixed²⁶. We found no free cleaning or polishing^{1,2,5,7,9,17,24,26}; cleaning, resizing and prong work are requested through its repair form²⁷, and its care guide recommends a professional cleaning at least once a year²⁶. Vow engagement rings get one free resize of up to a full size; some wedding bands can be resized through its Resizing Service, and eternity bands can’t¹.

What Kinn sells & what it costs

Kinn says all its yellow gold jewelry is 14k solid gold, never plated or filled¹, and its product pages say ’14k solid gold—always’ and give each piece’s total weight^1,7; a yellow-diamond ring we opened is 18k²⁸. The product pages we checked for 14k pieces don’t name the alloy^5,6,7,29, and that 18k page describes 75% gold ‘balanced with carefully selected metals’ without naming them²⁸. Its product feed lists silver as ‘925 Sterling Silver’⁴.

Many diamond pieces let you choose ‘Lab Created’ or ‘Natural’ stones, each with its own carat weight, clarity and color^4,7. Kinn grades natural diamonds by GIA’s 4Cs and offers GIA or IGI grading for lab-grown ones³⁰. Every loose diamond in its product feed is named with a GIA grade and as ‘Lab Grown’ or ‘Mined’⁴, and the two we opened give GIA report numbers^5,6; the yellow-diamond ring is natural and GIA certified²⁸. Vow rings use diamonds of D–I color and VS clarity or better¹, and Kinn provides an appraisal with a Vow ring, to help insure it¹. In its vintage section, a ‘Vintage 14k Baguette CZ Ring’ names its simulant⁴, and a vault sample ring lists its lab diamond as ‘~.75ct’²⁹.

Kinn says its gold is certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council and comes from Fairmined mining organizations, that its diamonds are conflict-free under the Kimberley Process¹, and that it uses recycled 14k gold⁸. Through KinnCycle it takes old 14k gold for a gift card worth $60 per gram of melted gold, warning that up to 25% can be lost in melting³¹.

Its product feed lists rings, necklaces, pendants, earrings, bracelets, loose diamonds, vintage pieces and watches⁴. By our count of that feed, half of its products start at $1,280 or more⁴; prices may shift with the price of gold¹. Its size chart runs from US 3 to 9.5, with custom and half sizes on request⁷.

Payment

The store runs on Shopify¹⁰. Its checkout accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JCB through Apple Pay, and PayPal¹¹; in the US you can pay over time with Shop Pay¹.

What customers say

Google rates the Culver City flagship 4.3 from 37 reviews¹⁸; a ‘Kinn Studio—Appointment Only’ listing at 606 S Olive St in Los Angeles shows 4.5 from 173³². On Junip, a review platform, Kinn has 4.94 from 862 reviews³³, while Thingtesting users rate it 2 across 22 reviews³⁴. We found no Trustpilot or BBB profile in Google results and are still checking both by hand.

Kinn’s home page quotes The Strategist calling it ‘the best fine jewelry you can buy online’¹¹; Wirecutter’s testers liked its hoops but found the other pieces they tested ‘insubstantial’¹⁹. A Reddit thread titled ‘Box Chain is no longer a box chain’ includes someone who ‘reached out to their customer support and really was disappointed with the response’²¹; another poster hesitates to buy ‘a 4k fall apart piece’, saying ‘the reviews are poor’²⁰, and a third likes its small custom sizes but worries about durability³⁵. TikTok reviews mention a hollow chain and wish for ‘more disclosure around sustainability, sourcing, and production’³⁶; a Facebook post says ‘6 months later and I’m really glad I went with Kinn!’, with ‘no tarnishing and no fading’³⁷.
